SS-31

SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide composed of D-Arg–dimethylTyr–Lys–Phe–NH₂. It is extensively studied for its potential to bind and stabilize cardiolipin, thereby supporting overall mitochondrial function. This compound is of particular research interest in areas related to oxidative stress, mitochondrial bioenergetics, and the regulation of cellular apoptosis.
SS-31 selectively accumulates within the inner mitochondrial membrane, where in vitro studies suggest it may help regulate reactive oxygen species, enhance ATP synthesis, and maintain mitochondrial structural integrity.
